Desperate Times, Mindful Choices

Here’s to the adults with children in their lives...

The ones watching Disney movies more than the news.

The ones reading Goodnight, Moon while fear urges them to read the New York Times.

The ones who secretly check for updates while the kids play on unaware.

The ones who throw dance parties when it would be easier to collapse into the couch.

The ones who speak honestly but filter for what young minds can process.

The ones reassuring little ears that everything will be fine, as they pray to God wondering when this will end.

The ones soaking in quality time even while bills, grocery, and employment concerns are filling their minds.

The ones who smile all day and shed a few, fearful tears at night.

The ones who want to pinch cheeks but who send their love electronically.

The ones who model resilience in the face of unpredictability when it would be so much easier to cower in fear.

The ones who give themselves moments to regroup when they actually need hours.

The ones leaning on their village when it would feel simpler to just close off from the world.

Here’s to the adults who are shaping these children for a lifetime rather than obsessing over this moment in their own.

No matter your role in their lives, you are having a greater impact than you can imagine. Have faith, and we'll see this through.
